Arts Education Initiative (AEI) Over a three-year period (2005–2008), the DC Collaborative’s AEI will use the arts to develop, pilot, refine, and adopt a model process for collaboration in the DC public and charter schools to effect school change and enhance student learning. Through a comprehensive partnership between the DC Collaborative and the DC public and charter schools, the AEI will develop collaborators’ abilities to plan, lead, and evaluate arts education programming in schools more effectively.

DC Arts Education Summer Institute

Approximately 60 teachers from 8 schools, participated in the DC Arts Education Summer Institute, June 18–22, 2007, at the Washington National Opera’s education studio. Working in teams, the educators developed a blueprint for arts-integrated units and the foundation of an Arts Education Plan for implementation during the 2007–2008 school year. The participants also attended arts workshops, and artists helped the teachers design approaches for integrating the arts into their classroom. These ongoing efforts are part of the DC Collaborative’s Arts Education Initiative (AEI).
