Louise Kennelly Executive Director


As Executive Director of the DC Collaborative, Louise works with the staff, members, and board to ensure the organization's consistent achievement of its mission and objectives. Before coming to the DC Collaborative, she was a Director at the National High School Center located at the American Institutes for Research, where she is still affiliated. Before joining AIR, Ms. Kennelly led external relations initiatives at New American Schools (NAS), providing public relations and policy-related services to clients such as the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform and the U.S. Conference of Mayors. Ms. Kennelly has taught at the secondary school and college levels and has covered education issues as a daily news journalist and editor. She graduated from Yale University and holds a Master's from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism and an M.F.A from the University of North Carolina. Ms. Kennelly is also a published poet and painter showing at the Anne C. Fisher Gallery. She is the recipient of a Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Award, a North Carolina State Arts Council Individual Artist Award and is an artist in the schools through the Maryland State Arts Council's Arts in Education (AiE) program. Melissa Danielson Program Manager of Member Services


Melissa is the Program Manager of Member Services at the DC Collaborative. Before coming to the DC Collaborative Melissa worked in costume and design at the Erie Playhouse. Melissa has been involved in numerous community art projects such as the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation-sponsored Historic PA Rt. 6 Read Between the Signs sculpture mural project, as well as with numerous mural painting projects at vocational and community centers. She participated in a year of AmeriCorps wherin she worked on an intergenerational arts program at an assisted living home where she helped to facilitate positive interaction between area youth and elderly residents. Melissa draws from her experiences abroad, including teaching English and Art in Jaipur, India, where she partnered with the Non Government Organization, I-India on arts-empowerment projects such as mural painting with at-risk girls. Melissa has a strong ethic of service and participated in Bike and Build, riding her bike across the country throughout summer 2010 in an effort to raise funds for more affordable housing and benefitting Habitat for Humanity. She recruited new supporters and stakeholders in the effort such as the Mayor of Erie and President of Allegheny College. She has a strong background in the visual arts with a BA in Studio Art from Allegheny College in Meadville, PA.


Dixie Hairston Program Manager of School Services

Dixie Hairston is the Program manager of School Services for the DC Collaborative. She is the primary contact for the Arts For Every Student program and serves as the liaison between the DC Collaborative and DC Public and Public Chartered Schools in order to provide the best possible cultural experiences for students. Dixie graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. She moved to DC in August of 2010 to participate in American University's Graduate Gateway program for International Affairs with a specific focus on children in developing countries. It was through this program that Dixie joined the DC Collaborative team. She has always had an interest in education and working for the benefit of children.
